Bias in Cross-Cultural Negotiations

Date: Thursday, August 08, 2013 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Venue: Presidents Room / Minnesota State Bar Association  Minneapolis, MN United States   Get Directions
$30.00

In this interactive session, you will learn about your own conscious or unconscious biases toward people with different cultural backgrounds.  You will learn to identify key cultural principles that most impact cross-cultural negotiations.  Through role-playing and debriefing real-life situations in India and China, you will learn about key cultural differences in legal systems, attitudes toward contracts, handling conflict, negotiating, and business relationships, in order to minimize misunderstanding and promote positive negotiation outcomes.  The concept of stereotyping and how to get beyond it will also be covered.  The tools provided can also be applied to a broader array of cross-cultural situations in the practice of law, including those involving lawyers and clients of color, women, race, religion, and sexual orientation.  You will come away with practical tips on how to get beyond bias through tested intercultural frameworks, and useful lessons learned in real negotiations in foreign countries and the U.S.

This 2-hour CLE will satisfy your Elimination of Bias credits requirement.
