representing a foreign-born client, a foreign corporation that operates in the
United States, or a client who operates a business outside of the United States,
you need to be able to recognize when your client may have substantial U.S. tax
compliance issue regarding foreign assets and transactions. Identification of
such issues as part of your due diligence checklist may help you build the right
legal team for your client and reduce the possibility of potential malpractice
claims later. The stakes for business lawyers (especially, in-house attorneys
and outside counsel) are very high due to potentially draconian penalties your
clients may face in case of international tax non-compliance.
This CLE is intended to provide a
plain-language broad overview of the top three international tax compliance
issues that every international business attorney should incorporate into his or
her due diligence checklist. The CLE topics will include the reporting of
foreign financial accounts, reporting of foreign business ownership, and an
introduction to two major anti-deferral regimes.
The speaker, Eugene Sherayzen, Esq., is the founder and owner of Sherayzen
Law Office, PLLC - a law firm that specializes in U.S. tax compliance for U.S.
and foreign persons.
