Michael Hurley, former CIA officer and
current national security and counterterrorism consultant, will discuss the following
topics: a current assessment of the terrorist threat to the United States and
our allies; the implications of the disclosures made by Edward Snowden,
WikiLeaks and Bradley Manning (Civil disobedience or criminal behavior?); and
the NSA surveillance program (is it necessary to and compatible with our
democracy?). Please join us for this interesting and timely discussion of
the balance between security, privacy and civil liberties.Presenter:Michael Hurley, President,

Hurley, an attorney, is president of Team 3i LLC, an
international strategy company. Currently, he advises the co-chairmen of the 9/11
Commission and their Homeland Security Project at the Bipartisan Policy
Center. He was a Counterterrorism Special Advisor for Middle East Security to Special
Envoy General James Jones (former National Security Adviser and
Supreme Allied Commander Europe). He was Special Advisor on CT to the U.S.
State Department. As a Senior Counsel and Team Leader on the 9/11
Commission, he directed its counterterrorism policy investigation and co-authored its
best-selling final report. He was twice National Security Council White House
Director for the Balkans. He retired after 25 years in CIA where he was
a senior operations officer and manager, serving more than 15
years in high-profile foreign countries. Immediately after the 9/11 attacks on the United States
he deployed for 18 months to Afghanistan where he led Agency personnel
and U.S. Special Forces in Operation Anaconda, the biggest campaign of the Afghan conflict
and was a leader in the hunt for Osama bin Laden. He is
a Minnesota native, graduated from the University of Minnesota and the University of
Minnesota Law School.
